Audiobook Narrator The Art of Recording Audio Books edition by Barbara Rosenblat Dan O'Day Arts Photography eBooks Reviews

Short and sweet this book give you a lot of great information from someone with a lot of experience in audiobook narration. It gave me a few great pointers and reaffirmed a few things for me. Made it easier for me to make some decisions going forward with my book narrations. I found it very helpful. I have bought a couple of other audiobook narration books and they were useless. This one gave me insight, information from an experienced performer and some rules to live by.
Since first hearing Gilman's Caravan from a cassette tape library series long ago, I have cherished the narrations brought to life by this gifted reader, translator, and storyteller. I thank Barbara for her many nuggets of wisdom distilled down into this kindlebook. I have been struggling with audio recording and production for a few months, and I was almost ready to submit my work. Because of these trials and errors, I truly appreciate and own the lessons from her teaching videos from her November, 2015 class, from this book and from her youtube direction to students. I can now with a fresh attitude readdress, rethink, and rerecord and submit a better product. Thank you.
This concise volume contains a wealth of information for anyone seeking to begin a career as an audiobook narrator, plus tips and tricks for the seasoned pro. Ms. Barbara Rosenblat IS audiobooks, and as one of the earliest exponents and developers of the craft, she knows her industry inside and out. The wealth of practical, user friendly information she shares in this book, reads like a conversation with a very dear and caring expert friend. Not a word is wasted, nor any advice superfluous. It reads like the thoughtful answers to questions she has been asked by would be audiobook narrators, and those further along in their careers, over the years. The book provides a clear road map and "tool kit "answering all the questions you might ask, if you were in her company. She writes with clarity, wisdom and humor.I wish I had, had this book at the start of my career. It would have saved me a great deal of time, money and angst. It is extremely well written, engaging and entertaining, whilst also being extremely practical and informative. Highly recommended.
I really did enjoy this book, even though what I was specifically looking for wasn't talked too much about, I learned so many pivotal things. I did enjoy the shortness of the book, not because I hate reading, but because I felt it packed a good bit of information in its few pages, however I almost didn't buy it because I have a sort of inner policy with myself, and yes, this is technical, but based on the price and the shortness I found a typo on the second page of the first chapter, and as a writer myself, it kind of makes me cringe a bit, because it was so noticeable that I don't know how it wasn't caught, but perhaps that's more the editor's fault, than the author, but I feel a book should be error free, if it is 78 pages and nearing the ten dollars mark. But overall, extremely important information, things you would want and need to know if you are breaking into the audiobook business.
I am a beginning narrator, and I bought this book because of the large numbers of positive reviews. The book included some helpful information, but honestly, much of it is already available online based on my own searches. The stories of Ms. Rosenblat's experiences were interesting, and she includes some links to potentially helpful resources. This is a very short read for the price. I feel that $2.99 or less would have been a more appropriate price. Also, it is more of a Q&A document than an actual book that teaches you how to narrate audiobooks. I feel bad writing such a critical review because what is included is generally helpful. It may be helpful if you're just thinking about narrating and want to know whether or not it's for you, but truly, I was disappointed. There was just so very little information. There are links in the book that attempt to upsell you into purchasing a recorded version of this Q&A and an audio seminar. I wanted to want to get the seminar, but I was skeptical that it would be more of the same. Given the reviews and the reputation of the author, I expected a working tool I would reference time and again as I learned this process, the art of recording audiobooks. This book is not that.
